During the Revolutionary War, at hungry hound obviously of high breeding wandered into General Washington's headquarters at Pennibecker's Mill near Germantown, Pennsylvania. The dog was lost and foraging for food, which was promptly provided. But controversy quickly developed among the officers. Should they keep the dog for a mascot or turn it loose? Just them somebody noticed the name of General Howe, the British commander, engraved on the dog's collar. Washington settled the argument by proclaiming that the dog should be returned to it rightful owner under a white flag or truce. An avid fox hunter, the American commander understood the close bond between a man and his dog. |

Choose a "kind" collar such as a check choke or broad collar in leather or nylon, with the weight and width appropriate for the size of the adult dog or puppy. Leash type is important.
